C received an award for having the most reading minutes in the entire school! I'm really proud of him. :-)
He told me when he first discovered that they were keeping logs of reading, "I'm #2 right now, in my class for the reading minutes. I want to be the #1".
I told him it's great that he has a goal. I told him if he has a strong will to do something, he's going to do it!
He's always reading without being told, and the minutes we put down weren't really ALL the minutes we should have put down. They allow us to put down books we've read to him, but we never wrote those down. We only kept record of what he read, and we didn't count comic books or easy readers at that.
It was great seeing him receive his award at the Awards Ceremony for 2nd Grade.
I felt sad that they didn't tell me they were going to have an ice-cream reward for the top readers the next day. So, even though he was #1 he didn't get to have any ice cream at school. Poor guy... :-(
When we walked home, I told him how sad I felt with him that he was excluded from the celebration, because the teachers didn't tell me. These are the situations that really make me want to homeschool him. He doesn't need more heart-ache! (Am I being too over-protective?)
I have him a very big scoop of coconut milk based Chocolate ice cream and he also wanted Mango Sherbet on a gluten-free cone. I had one too, Chocolate it was cooling and delicious! I told him how proud I was of him that he set out towards a goal and he attained it!
Congrats C!!! :-D
